Assessment Options

Prior to faculty enrolling in the Faculty Development Institute Programs, and registering in its online forums, assessment options and guidelines will be discussed and mutually established.

Sample Discussion Points

1) To grade or not to grade? That is the question. Will attendee participation be graded or non-graded?

2) If attendee participation is graded, will attendees conduct a self-assessment, or will the instructor assess attendee participation?

3) Ongoing formative assessment will be implemented. In other words, attendee participation will be assessed throughout the program, i.e., during each online forum. Doing so enables the instructor to formulate questions to better meet the needs of attendees.

4) Will a summative assessment be implemented. In other words, will a final assessment be conducted at the conclusion of each online forum and/or at the end of a series of forums?

5) If attendee participation in the online forums is to be graded, will a scoring rubric be provided at the beginning of the forum, so attendees know exactly what is expected of them? A sample scoring rubric, adaptable to specific group needs, is provided below.

6) Will a summative assessment, such as a final/concluding project, perhaps in the form of “Deliverables” or “Evidence of Learning,” be required at the end of the program? If so, samples could include lists of takeaways (key ideas to remember), PowerPoint presentations, short videos, podcasts, posters, original poems, song lyrics, artwork, diagrams, etc.
